Tsujiri was founded in 1860 by Riemon Tsuji, who was renowned for his spirit of “YUWA” – meaning “continue to innovate and sustain traditions”. His contributions to the Japanese tea industry were so significant that a statue of him was built in Kyoto, Japan, to honor his memory.
Mr. Tsuji has refined the cultivation of Gyukuro (the highest grade of Japanese green tea) and his methods are still in use to this day. He is also the inventor of the tea box, which helps to preserve the longevity and freshness of tea leaves during transportation, making fresh tea from Kyoto available to other Japanese cities a century ago.
In 2010, CHAHO (which means tea shop in Japanese) were first founded outside of Japan to carry on our founder’s spirit and to serve our fresh tea to customers worldwide.
Tsujiri Matcha
Following the processing techniques used for centuries, Tsujiri keeps using our traditional stone motars to produce meticulous and high quality matcha. Tsujiri Matcha itself completely preserves nutrient contents of water insoluble Vitamin A and B-carotene contained in tea leaves, so as to generate thicker tea aroma.
Our matcha has a slightly bitter and sweet aftertaste that not only allows you to relieve the pressures accumulated in the body and mind but also lets the body directly absorb the rich dietary fiber contained in the tea leaves.
Tsujiri Japanese Tea
As an extremely delicate agricultural product, tea leaves will be changed depending on the conditions of climate and harvesting season.
In order to make consumers experience the refined taste that has been passed down through the centuries, Tsujiri Matcha’s tea masters are trained to have comprehensive knowledge about tea leaves as well as many years of tea processing experience in order to make use of first class tea leaves.
The so-called great master’s senses include color, flavor, and taste; each of which plays an integral part in creating the perfect cup of tea.
Japanese tea is rich in catechins, amino acids, and various vitamins. It also contains valuable antioxidant effects that make it an indispensable healthy drink for people living in modern society. Tsujiri’s first-class tea is not only beneficial to health and beauty, but also helps to relieve the tensions of our busy modern lives.

Tsujiri Design
150 years ago, Mr. Riemon Tsuji invented the “Chabitsu (tea bowl)”. This special container could adjust the temperature and humidity of its contents, allowing the delicate Uji Tea to be spread throughout Japan.
150 years later, TSUJIRI CHAHO has inherited the tradition by using the main design concept of Chabitsu Wall into our shops. This symbolizes the spirit of Yuwa – the mixing of tradition with innovation.
The common design element of straight stripes in Japan on the counter matches characters swelling outward to declare that this century-old tea shop shows its determination to lead Japanese tea culture to be spread globally.
